The acquisition by a group of independent investors follows a strategic review of operations by AWD Group Plc, which concluded that Moneyextra.com's long-term future would be best served in a business with an online focus, rather than as part of an independent financial advisory firm.

The new company will trade as Moneyextra.com Limited.

John Elder, one of the principal shareholders said "Moneyextra.com is considered one of the UK's leading and most respected financial information websites. By capitalising on the strength of its brand and broadening its offering via the acquisition of other market-leading businesses, we intend to restore Moneyextra.com to its glory days. Our first steps will be to radically overhaul the business, appoint a senior-level management team, and expand Moneyextra.com's comparison offerings via the development of revolutionary aggregator solutions."

Elder concluded: "We are 100% dedicated to this business and are very excited about working with a highly-motivated management team to tackle the challenges that lie ahead."
